About Camp STAR.
We are a camp for children ages 8-16 years old that have experienced the death of a loved one, parent, sibling, friend, grandparents. Camp is a weekend long. You can plan on the fun camp experiences along with meaningful activities that help you understand you are not alone on this journey.
A Very Special Camp STAR thank you!
Our local Running for a Reason started in November of 2011. The idea is that the group would raise funds and run races in honor of those they are helping. The money raised from the 1st Annual Running for a Reason 5k Run has been used throughout the year donated to families that are faced with unexpected events, mainly illness related. They currently have a Relay for Life team and are part of Adopt a Highway. In the past year and a half they have raised over $19,000 to help local groups and families. Some of the fund raisers include: Basket, T- shirt and pasty sales, the Running for a Reason race and 2 open houses that showcased vendors selling different items. Running for a Reason is currently planning a Kids Day at Al Quaal to help a family whose baby was born premature.
They stress that you don't have to be a runner to be part of Running for a Reason. Running, donating or sending words of encouragement to the runners/recipient makes you part of Running.
We are forever grateful to you for thinking of Camp STAR as one of your recipients. Please know, you have changed the lives of the Camp STAR Campers on their journey through grief.
